Not great, and unless I can get this fixed, my early preview time here appears to be at an end. The whole game seems just a tad rough around the edges, and finally I hit something big and serious, a progression blocker in the main quest where I cannot complete a task as simple as “make someone food” because I’m being led to a bugged out quest marker and the game won’t let me interact with any cooking devices on the map. I also wonder about an overall lack of polish. I know there are things like raids and world bosses, but given that I’m playing on a test server, I haven’t experienced anything in that category yet. It is also too early to tell how the multiplayer aspects of this game will or will not potentially elevate it above Genshin, which is largely a solo experience. This is one area where gacha design feels like its infringing on what I wish this game actually was. Part of me wishes this was a more traditional RPG system where I could focus purely on upgrading my own created hero, rather than hopping between simulacrums and relegating my character to only appear in cutscenes. Essentially, it’s a fancy way of designing combat to be based around going for character pulls. ![]() ![]() Despite your created hero being the lead character, the game has a system of “simulacrums,” which are digital reincarnations of warriors with different skills and weapons. While I’ve been shown the gambling pull system, I haven’t been forced into it. Given that I have already invested so much in Genshin’s gacha system it would be hard to fully commit to another game in this genre, though I will say it’s too early to know how “necessary” paying for power will be here, as in the early stages, there’s nothing I haven’t been able to handle. I’m just not getting that same impression from Tower of Fantasy yet, though perhaps it will increase in time.įinally, the gacha. Again, it’s hard to compare favorably with Genshin, which despite its focus on raking in billions of dollars, has an incredibly rich universe full of really interesting characters. ![]() We are a hero with memory loss and I just don’t know what exactly it is I’m meant to be doing here. The early stages are based around a safe zone being attacked and a friend of ours being injured, but the game does not do a great job at setting up the overall universe and the stakes at play here.
